My name is Antoinette M. James, and I’m a storyteller and a survivor.
In my memoir, Behind the Badge: Her Story, I take you through the streets of Detroit, where I served as a police officer during one of the city’s most corrupt eras. But this story is deeper than the badge—it’s about trauma, survival, and resilience.

I’m a survivor of sexual abuse. A single mother. A Black woman who refused to be silenced. My journey is about breaking the chains of my past and using my voice to speak truth—not just for myself, but for the millions of women like me who suffer in silence.

Domestic violence and systemic neglect continue to devastate our communities, especially Black women and girls. Our stories are too often overlooked. Our pain, ignored. But I will not be quiet. I share my story to spark change, to demand justice, and to remind others that healing is possible. We can break the silence. We can change the system.
